The School of Infection and Immunity, MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) is seeking a researcher will make a leading contribution to UKRI-funded projects. You will be embedded (working remotely or on site) with Dr Chris Illingworth’s team as part of an interdisciplinary group of researchers at the CVR.
The postholder will work to create mathematical and statistical approaches to better understand virus infection, evolution, and transmission. The CVR provides a highly interdisciplinary environment, integrating computational, experimental and clinical research. Building strong links with researchers in other disciplines is a critical part of the role. Some current topics of research in the group are:
- Modelling viral spread across cells, organisms and populations
- Combining genomic and epidemiological data to understand viral transmission
- Building mathematical approaches to enhance preparedness for outbreaks and epidemics
The CVR is a unique international research centre with a critical mass of researchers entirely dedicated to the study of viral diseases (www.cvr.ac.uk; www.facebook.com/centreforvirusresearch; https://twitter.com/cvrinfo). The CVR’s collegiate and collaborative environment fosters a broad research portfolio. Research at the CVR ranges from molecular and cellular studies through to considering global viral populations. Techniques include molecular and structural virology, cell biology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, mathematical modelling, virus genomics and bioinformatics.
The Laboratory is placed in the Sir Michael Stoker Building in a beautiful park in the Garscube Estate in Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city and the fourth largest in the UK
(https://www.lonelyplanet.com/scotland/glasgow). Glasgow is a cultural city with a large selection of museums, theatres, live music venues and it is the home of the Scottish Opera, the Scottish Ballet, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and other arts organisations. Glasgow is surrounded by beautiful countryside including the stunning Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park
(https://www.lochlomond-trossachs.org/).
The position is funded until 31 March 2028 on a full-time basis and the appointment will be made at Grade 6 or 7 depending on experience (Grade 6 £32,332-£36,024 / Grade 7 £39,347-£44,263 per annum).
