Job Details

Umeå University is looking for a Staff scientist with experience in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and a project assistant with experience in electron microscopy and structure biology. The positions are financed by grants from SciLifeLab for work with SciLifeLab’s national services associated with the infrastructure. The employment is for 12 months. The application deadline is September 9, 2024.

Description

As a Staff scientist, you will provide researchers with expertise in the planning and performing electron microscopy (EM), cryo-EM and image analysis in biological, chemical, physical and biochemical research areas. You will be involved in teaching shorter methodology courses at the postgraduate level and provide user training on EM methods. Work assignments include the operation and maintenance of instruments and computer systems, as well as assisting researchers in the preparation of EM samples, data collection, and image analysis. You will also coordinate ongoing facility projects and collaborations between partner microscopy facilities in Sweden and internationally. The work is planned with the facility's other staff and carried out independently or with collaborators and facility users. Our working language is English.

As a project assistant/research engineer, you will provide electron microscopy and molecular biology support at UCEM (Umeå Centre for Electron Microscopy) facility. The position includes responsibility for the daily operation of lab environments, preparing solutions and cells, proteins and macromolecular complexes for electron microscopy, as well as assisting researchers with these methods. Experiments and results must be carefully and continuously documented and reported. We are looking for an independent employee who is flexible and can get involved in various research projects and collaborate with the members of UCEM's research groups. The working language is English.
