The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Associate to join a molecular immunology lab investigating fundamental mechanisms of immune dysfunction resulting from traumatic injury or sepsis. Recent focus of the lab is on neutrophil mediated NETosis and its effects on acute lung injury after trauma. We use traditional immunology techniques including flow cytometry combined with molecular biology and cloning technologies. Candidates having experience with small animal models, animal surgery, molecular biology and/or immunology background are encouraged to apply.

Job Duties

  • Designs and completes in vivo experiments, including surgery, using small animal models.
  • Designs and completes in vitro experiments using cell culture models.
  • Designs and completes experiments using molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: PCR, cloning, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry.
  • Designs and completes experiments using immunology techniques including multiplex flow cytometry.
  • Analyzes data and develop manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Presents results at national and international conferences

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fundamental understanding of immune function on a cellular level • Fundamental understanding of molecular biology and interest in cell signaling in immune cells.
  • Understanding and/or interest of alterations in immune function in disease states such as trauma or sepsis.
  • Bench research experience in molecular biology and/or immunology related field.
  • Experience with small animal models and/or animal surgeries.
