The Mayo Clinic Biorepository Program within the Office of Core Shared Services is recruiting a Co-Director for the Biospecimen Accessioning and Processing (BAP) Laboratory in Rochester, MN. The BAP laboratory is a College of American Pathologists accredited laboratory with a staff of over 110 FTE, occupying approximately 100,000 square feet on the Rochester campus. It is one of the main core laboratories supporting basic and translational research and clinical trials.

 

This position is tenure-track faculty level position with an academic appointment. This individual will help oversee the day-to-day operations of the Biorepository Core Laboratory. Responsibilities include the following: Models leadership skills, positive attitude, good judgement, team building and respect for others. Provides leadership in improving operational and financial performance with effective decision making, planning and implementation. Accepts accountability for performance. Encourages open discussion of ideas and suggestions. Develops both short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the laboratory. Proactively works with staff to ensure optimal laboratory operations; oversees implementation of solutions to problems in a timely manner. Provides operational and technical guidance to laboratory work units. Oversees laboratory protocol development and process improvement, project/grant development and management, mentoring and career development.

Develops/maintains cutting-edge technological infrastructure. Promotes and sets accountability for a fair and open culture and for an engaged workforce. Keeps abreast of current activities in the field, evaluating and implementing changes as needed. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies. Broad engagement in institutional initiatives and investigator led research protocols from design level to publication and clinical translation. Participates in laboratory management meetings and institutional committees as required. Foster collaboration across the organization to provide the best patient outcomes. Effective management that will align to Mayo Clinic’s 2030 strategy of identifying new cures for patients, connections through a digital strategy and transformational business models. About the Biorepository Program

 

The Biorepository Program is enterprise wide, with activities spanning Mayo Clinic Rochester, Mayo Clinic Florida, and Mayo Clinic Arizona, thus providing a national presence. The Biospecimen Accessioning and Processing core laboratory located in Rochester, MN is the largest laboratory within the Biorepository Program, supporting the pre-analytical sample processing and management needs of the research and clinical trial community by providing: 1) sample accessioning; 2) sample processing (blood, other biologic fluids, cultured cells and tissue); 3) nucleic acid extraction; 4) preparation and cryopreservation of mononuclear cells; 5) distribution of products (i.e., serum, plasma, DNA, RNA, cells, tissue); 6) short and long term storage of products (ambient, -20°C, -80°C, liquid nitrogen; and finally 7) kit production and distribution for biospecimen collection. The laboratory support several hundred Mayo Clinic Investigators, several research programs (Mayo Clinic Office of Core Shared Services, Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center, SPOREs, and Disease Groups) and a growing number of external clients, including several NIH and Foundations funded programs.

Mayo Clinic Bioservices is a nationally recognized state-of-the-art research organization supporting the collection, processing, and storage of all types of biologic samples in support of basic, population, and translational research as well as clinical trial activities. Mayo Clinic Bioservices provides access to Biorepository Program services to customers external to Mayo Clinic. This is the central repository for several national biobanks including All of Us Research Program (AoURP), Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS CoV-2 infection (PASC) initiative, and Nutrition for Precision Health (NPH).
