As part of its strategic planning, the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) is pursuing the consistent development of its priority research areas in neuroscience, cardiovascular medicine, oncology and molecular cell biology with translational approaches, among others, within the new Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies. On the Göttingen Campus, UMG is closely linked to the natural and life science institutions of the University as well as the non-university institutions.

As part of the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies (EKFZ) at UMG, a

W2 professorship (tenured) (f/m/d)

Disease Modelling

is to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies (EKFZ) is a new interdisciplinary clinical research center of the UMG with partners at the Göttingen Campus as well as at Medical University of Hannover, Technical University of Chemnitz, and University of Freiburg. The goal of EKFZ is the development and clinical translation of optogenetic therapies for the deaf and the blind as well as development of optogenetic gastric pacemakers and brain computer interfaces.

The position is associated with setting up and leading the Disease Modelling platform of EKFZ in collaboration with the other platforms and teams of EKFZ. We are looking for a highly qualified, internationally visible scientist with an independent scientific profile as well as comprehensive knowledge and many years of experience in the development and characterization of cell- and tissue-based disease models and tools for regenerative medicine. Practical experience in the production of cell and organoid models of human diseases derived from induced pluripotent stem cells, in their molecular and physiological characterization, as well as experience in multidisciplinary cooperation for the application and characterization of disease models in preclinical studies are required. We are looking for a researcher who will pursue further methodological development through collaborative use of the infrastructure available at the Göttingen Campus and make a substantial contribution to the acquisition of competitive third-party funding, the promotion of young scientists and the development of teaching in biomedicine and life sciences. An interdisciplinary research environment provided by the participating institutions of the EKFZ is guaranteed.

A habilitation or an equivalent scientific qualification is required, as well as teaching experience. Further requirements for the appointment of university professors are laid out in the current version of § 25 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Lower Saxony (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz). The UMG reserves the right of appointment.

Applications from scientists from abroad are explicitly welcome.

UMG aims to increase the proportion of women and therefore explicitly invites qualified women to apply. Severely disabled persons will be given preferential consideration if they have the same qualifications.
