About the Role
As the Editor-in-Chief of Cell Reports Physical Science, you will assume overall responsibility for setting the journal’s scientific scope and determining its editorial direction. You will lead and further develop the editorial team at the journal. You will also be responsible for ensuring the quality and quantity of the research articles published in the journal and will work with the publishing director on the strategic development of the journal ensuring that business goals are met. You will be expected to travel to attend conferences, seminars, and scientific meetings and to build a broad network of domestic and international contacts. The Editor-in-Chief will also need to develop and foster partnerships with members of the production, marketing, press and advertising teams, as well as with other editorial teams at Cell Press, and to contribute to the overall publishing strategy of Cell Press.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a prestigious and rapidly growing journal in the vibrant and growing Cell Press journal portfolio.
The position can be based in the UK, Amsterdam or China, where the Cell Press offices are located, and will report to the Open Access Publishing Director at Cell Press.
Responsibilities:
- Refining and developing the strategic focus of the journal
- Ensuring that the key strategic objectives of the title are met
- Managing a team of scientific editors
- Establishing relationships with and continuing to build the advisory board
- Managing day-to-day operations at the journal
- Reaching out to the community and recruiting exciting papers within the scope of the journal
- Collaborating on defining production workflows, marketing, social media and website
Requirements:
- Have a Ph.D. in any field covered by the journal
- Have extensive editorial experience
- Have a broad interest across the full spectrum of chemistry/physics/materials science
- Have an established network with the research community
- Have excellent project and/or people management skills
- Be interested in engaging with the scientific community
