Computational Scientist – Postdoc level
Salary £39,375 per annum
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK

The Tufegdzic Vidakovic lab at MRC LMB combines genomics, biochemistry, cell biology and computational biology, to gain mechanistic understanding of how our genome is transcribed. Our team is interdisciplinary and international, combining both experimental and computational (wet and dry) approaches, and is a highly collaborative environment to perform cutting-edge research.

We are looking for a highly motivated computational biologist/bioinformatician to: 1) lead a research project investigating Pol II dynamics during mammalian development, which involves establishment of a new method to analyse position of actively-transcribing Pol II and associated factors on chromatin, and 2) collaborate within the team on diverse projects. You will work on different types of NGS and proteomic data, collaborating with experimental and computational biologists in a dynamic, open and creative culture.

You will have a PhD in computer science, bioinformatics or an equivalent related field (for example PhD in Biology where bioinformatics was extensively used), due to be completed within 6-12 months.

This is a three-year training and development position suitable for you if you have recently completed your doctoral studies, or you are looking to move into a new research discipline and/or need to further develop your research skills. Working with our world class scientists you will be working in an Institute renowned for its excellent scientific facilities and high-quality research.

If you are excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every requirement in the job description, we encourage you to apply nevertheless. Informal enquiries are welcome and should be addressed to: atv@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.

The LMB is one of the birthplaces of modern molecular biology. Over the years, the work of LMB scientists has attracted 12 Nobel prizes, dozens of Royal Society awards and numerous other scientific honours.

The LMB has a collaborative working culture and state-of-the-art building based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We have on-site parking, cycle enclosures and excellent public transport links to the site. We have a staff restaurant with roof terrace, on-site nursery, sports and social facilities. You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme with an employer contribution of 16%, holiday entitlement of 40.5 days (including bank holidays and privilege days) and a generous employee discount scheme. We are also committed to providing training and development opportunities including support towards role-related qualifications.

The LMB is a world-class research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is nine research councils, working together across all disciplines and sectors. More information can be found at www.ukri.org and www.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.

If you are unable to apply online please contact us at recruit@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.

Closing date: 19th August 2024

Final appointments will be subject to a pre-employment screening.
