By understanding the basic principles in electrolysers, fuel-cells and batteries, we aim to solve modern energy issues. We put the emphasis on the experiment-theory-data science collaborations, and joint research with leading research groups in worldwide. Through state-of-the-art electrochemistry research topics, we explore the new laws and mechanisms in electrochemistry that are still hidden in this world and bring advanced electrochemical technologies employing these innovative findings.
■What We Will Do
The successful candidates will join the Electrochemical Energy Conversion Team of National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS). NIMS is the best place to do materials science oriented research (NIMS: A Unique Research Institute! | NIMS). Your research project is on Human-AI Collaboration for discovery of game-changing electrocatalysts towards electrolysers, Developing Data-driven approach for synthesis of water-splitting electrocatalysts or data-driven characterization of water-splitting electrode processes by using in-situ electrochemical techniques.
■Starting Date and Term
You can join our team after 1st October 2024. The maximum term is 12 months and this contract can be extended by the result of annual evaluation. Each extension is maximum 12 months. The overall employment period shall not exceed five years.
■Work Place
National Institute for Materials Science, Namiki-Site (Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan).
The scope of the change of place of work shall be limited to each of the Employer’s site, as well as other locations separately approved by the Employer.
■Minimum qualifications
・ a PhD within the last 5 years in inorganic chemistry, materials chemistry, physical chemistry, data-science or related disciplines
・Strong academic publication record
・Experience in electrochemical experiments or strong motivation to learn electrochemistry
・Confidence on own skills and knowledge
・Ability and willingness to participate in research cruises- excellent knowledge of English (written and oral)
・Interest and ability to learn other skills needed; ability to work on challenging tasks
・Good communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team with scientists, engineers, and technicians

■Work Hours
7 hours 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week *Deemed working hours when the discretionary labor system is applied are 8 hours and 15 minutes per day.
■Holiday
Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, New Year Holidays, annual paid leave and other holidays as stipulated in the Working Regulations.
■Remuneration / Supply
*Fixed overtime pay included in monthly salary(Article 10, item 3 of the Salary Regulations for Fixed Term Employees)
*Insurance: Health insurance (MEXT Mutual Aid Association), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance and Worker’s Accident Compensation Insurance. You will be automatically enrolled in these insurances when working conditions meet the requirements.
*We set a probationary period of two months.
