The Sotomayor Research Group carries out research in the general area of nanophononics, which includes nano-scale thermal transport, phononic crystals, thermoelectricity, acousto-metamaterials, topological bosonics and NEOMs. The Sotomayor Research group has started its experimental work at INL only a few months ago and is looking for an enthusiastic researcher to accelerate the setting up research work focused on inelastic light scattering of nanostructures.


We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to undertake research tasks associated with research spanning from optomechanics to materials research and topological phononics.



Job Duties

The job duties will be the following:


Carry out research on Raman and Brillouin scattering of Silicon nanostructures scattering;To help recommission the pump-and-probe setup to measure phonon lifetimes in silicon and 2D materials;Plan research, experimental method development, carry out planned and new experiments, analysis of data and publication of results;Write reports, participate in project meetings, documentation, and dissemination of results;Shared responsibility in equipment maintenance and upgrades, as well as playing a full role in upholding IT Services and safety regulations. 


Mandatory Qualifications




PhD in Condensed Matter Physics or related field.    

Experience & Technical Skills


Postgraduate level research experience in experimental solid-state nanostructures, nanophotonics andor nanophononics and inelastic light scattering. 

Personal Skills


Ability to marshal arguments and to develop research concepts and or methods.Excellent organisational skills.Planning and leadership skills.Ability to work in an international team and on one's own.“Hands-on” approach together with a high commitment in respecting working deadlines.Problem Solving ability.Good verbal and written communication skills.Proficiency in English (spoken, written and reading comprehension).

How the Selection Process works

A. Applications eligibility check
