We are looking for a molecular / synthetic biologist to join Evolutionary and Synthetic Biology Unit at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST). You will study fitness landscapes in microbial systems using combinatorial DNA libraries, evolution experiments, sequencing, and machine learning.

Candidates should hold a PhD in microbiology, genetics, biotechnology or related field. Comprehensive knowledge of molecular biology, expertise in microbiology, DNA work (including modern cloning methods), and heterologous expression (and quantitation thereof) in microbes is a must. Experience with combinatorial DNA libraries, genome editing, barcoded lineage tracing, assay automation, and/or coding skills are highly desired. If you are self-motivated, independent, have a strong drive for science, aim high, and love working in interdisciplinary, international teams, you will enjoy working with us. If you see yourself in this description and would like to move to a top-notch institute on a beautiful subtropical island, please apply to this position.

Please submit your application as a single PDF file that includes your CV (2 pages max, with contact information for two referees), a cover letter (1 page max), and a summary (300 words max) about a macromolecule or complex whose fitness landscape you find especially interesting to study (and why). Send your application to Maria Anastasina (maria.anastasina@oist.jp) by 15th of September, 2024.

Compensation is based on years of experience. In addition, OIST offers relocation assistance, housing and commuting allowances, kindergarten on campus, and excellent support services to enhance both your research and life in Okinawa.
