The Australian Government is seeking to appoint a new Chief Scientist of Australia from 1 January 2025. This is a high-profile and distinguished role for an outstanding individual who wishes to make a lasting contribution towards Australia’s prosperity and the well-being of Australians within a changing world.

The Chief Scientist reports directly to the Minister for Industry and Science and the Prime Minister, and operates on a whole of government basis.

The Chief Scientist’s primary role is to provide independent advice to the Australian Government on matters relating to science, technology, and innovation. Additionally, the Chief Scientist champions science and research to the Australian community. The Chief Scientist serves as the Executive Officer of the National Science and Technology Council, chaired by the Prime Minister.
