The research group of Prof. Martin Eilers at the Biocenter Würzburg is interested in MYC oncoproteins that drive the growth of many human cancers. We are now offering two


PhD student or Postdoc positions (f/m/d)


to work on wet-lab projects aimed at the structural and functional characterisation of critical complexes of the MYCN oncoprotein. MYCN is a member of the MYC protein family that drives the growth of childhood tumours. The projects will use a combination of AI-based structural prediction, protein purification and crystallisation to characterise these complexes. The projects will be in collaboration molecular biologists at the Biocenter who are using a wide range of molecular biology and in vivo techniques to characterise MYCN-driven tumourigenesis. Both scientists will be part of the Cancer Grand Challenge KOODAC team (, an international team that aims to develop new degrader molecules ('Protacs') for oncoproteins that drive childhood cancers. The projects will be carried out in close collaboration with leading structural biologists, cancer biologists and drug developers at several academic centres worldwide.   • For the PhD student: Enrolment in the Graduate School of Life Science with broad research and skills training



  • Analyze the structure of critical protein complexes of the MYCN interactome using a combination of structure prediction and wet lab experiments
  • Validate the function of these complexes in neuroblastoma cells using state-of-the-art sequencing methods and multiple cell biological assays
  • Co-operate with tumor biologists for in vivo studies
  • Presenting your results at meetings and conferences


Your profile

  • Excellent Master or PhD degree in biology, biomedicine, biochemistry, chemistry, or pharmacology
  • Previous wet lab experience in one of these fields as a master or PhD student
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within the group
  • Prior knowledge in bioinformatics is advantageous but not obligatory.
