At the Medical Faculty

of the Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg

in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology the position of

a university professor for

Tumor Systems Biology

(salary group W 2)

is to be filled as soon as possible.

The professorship will be appointed for an initial period of six years. Upon successful completion of the tenure-track procedure, the position will be converted to a tenured position. The tenure track procedure can be initiated at the earliest after a period of employment of two years and six months as a university professor. The conversion to a tenured position will only take place if the university professor has demonstrated her or his qualifications according to the guidelines of the university's internal quality assurance concept.

The candidate shall represent the Department of Tumor Systems Biology in research and teaching.

As head of a research group at the Biocenter of the University of Würzburg (Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Prof. Dr. Martin Eilers), the successful candidate will lead an active research program that addresses central, system-oriented questions in tumor biology, in particular pediatric tumors, using advanced high-throughput methods. In this context, strong expertise in the analysis of RNA metabolism and the oncogenic functions of RNA-binding proteins with genome-wide methods is expected.

The successful acquisition of competitive third party projects is required. In addition, we expect active participation in the design of future research initiatives in cooperation with existing research facilities at the University.

One of the main tasks of the professorship is to represent the Department of Biochemistry in teaching at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. The future holder of the position should also play an active role in the bachelor and master programs "Biomedicine" and "Molecular Oncology". Therefore, teaching experience in research-oriented programs of medical faculties (e.g. human biology, biochemistry or biomedicine) is of advantage.

Prerequisites for employment are a completed university degree in biology, medicine or an interdisciplinary life science discipline, pedagogical aptitude, the special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually proven by the quality of a doctoral thesis, as well as additional scientific achievements, as described in Art. 57 para. 1 sentence 3 and 4 BayHIG. The additional scientific achievements should have been made in the field of tumor system biology.

An appointment to the civil service can be made according to Art. 60 para. 3 BayHIG only until the completion of the 52nd year of life. Exceptions are possible in urgent cases.

The University of Würzburg attaches great importance to the intensive support of students and doctoral candidates and expects a corresponding commitment from applicants.

The University of Würzburg strives to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore expressly invites qualified women scientists to apply.

Applicants with disabilities will be given preferential treatment if their qualifications are otherwise essentially the same.

Applications should be submitted by 07.01.2024, preferably electronically in the form of a PDF file to f-medizin@uni-wuerzburg.de, together with the required documents (download at https://www.med.uni-wuerzburg.de/fakultaet/berufungsverfahren/).
