Job Summary:
The PRecision Immune MicroEnvironments (PRIME) lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (https://immunoengineers.com) seeks a research specialist to support new studies at the intersection of biomaterials and synthetic biology. The lab focuses on engineered materials as platforms to: study immunology, diagnose disease, and develop therapeutics. The applicant will work under the guidance of the laboratory PI, Dr. Aaron Morris, and together with other lab personnel (graduate students) at NCRC. There will be opportunities to learn cutting edge techniques including biomaterials fabrication and characterization, molecular cloning, flow cytometry, and rodent models of disease. The selected candidate will receive direct mentoring from PI and opportunities to be included in publication of results.
Responsibilities:
- Molecular biology (work with bacteria, recombinant DNA)
- Cell culture and analysis
- Flow cytometry
- Conduct / manage studies in mice
- Managing and analyzing data (MATLAB, Graphpad, R Studio)
- Prepare laboratory solutions
- Maintain laboratory supplies/stocks
Required Qualifications:
- Intermediate Level:
- MS is required, preferably in bioengineering, molecular biology, bioengineering, chemistry, or related discipline.
- 4-5 years related experience.
- Candidates must be interested in working with technical aspects of synthetic biology and/or biomaterials development.
- Proficiency with cell culture.
- Proficiency with molecular cloning.
- Organized, detailed note taker.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with rodent handling.
- Candidates should have the ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team environment and independently. Effective interaction with faculty and peers is expected.
- Candidates should be eager to learn and contribute to a new laboratory.
- Associate level:
- This position requires a BS or MS, preferably in bioengineering, molecular biology, bioengineering, chemistry, or related discipline.
- 1 to 3 years related experience.
- Candidates must be interested in working with technical aspects of synthetic biology and/or biomaterials development.
- Proficiency with cell culture.
- Proficiency with molecular cloning.
- Organized, detailed note taker.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Candidates should have the ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team environment and independently. Effective interaction with faculty and peers is expected.
- Candidates should be eager to learn and contribute to a new laboratory.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with flow cytometry
- Experience in synthetic biology
- Working knowledge of immunology
- Comfort and experience with animal handling
- Ability to commit to a position for one year
Work Schedule:
The Michigan Engineering Office of Biomedical Engineering operates in a hybrid work environment consisting of both in-person and remote work. This position will be classified as a ON-SITE position within the Michigan Engineering STARR classification matrix which means working on campus 5 days per week.
