icipe is a pan-African centre of excellence in research for development and capacity building in insect science and its applications. The Centre’s mission is to help alleviate poverty, ensure food and nutritional security, and improve the overall human and environmental health status of the tropical regions. It does so by developing and extending management tools and strategies for harmful and useful arthropods while preserving the natural resource base.

Since its establishment in 1970, icipe has become a significant contributor to the science and innovation required to address the health and food security challenges of sub-Saharan Africa. The Centre has achieved this status by developing alternative and environmentally friendly technologies and products for pest and vector management. These solutions are effective, selective, non-polluting, and do not induce resistance. Additionally, they are affordable for resource-limited rural and urban communities.

icipe is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya and has operations in more than 40 African countries as well as thriving partnerships with universities and other research organisations across the world.

icipe is seeking its next Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) who will provide leadership for the Finance & Administration functions at the Centre. As icipe’s DFA, you will set the strategic direction for the Unit managers, including ensuring an alignment of resources with the functions, preparing the Units for change, and motivating the teams to maximise the value of the resources deployed in order to achieve the overall mission of the Centre.

We are seeking a leader proficient in both strategic financial management and diverse administrative functions. Working under the overall guidance of the Director General (DG), the DFA will be responsible for ensuring the Centre’s operational and financial stability. The DFA will oversee risk analysis, budget planning, compliance, and audit relations, ensuring that the Centre’s assets are safeguarded and utilized efficiently. Equally crucial will be the DFA’s ability to lead and inspire a diverse workforce, fostering an environment that encourages motivation, innovation, and high performance.
