The ultimate goal of our research is to make a meaningful difference to the lives of those affected by the brain conditions we study. By using ingenuity and visionary thinking we can make discoveries that translate into improved health outcomes.
The Florey is seeking to appoint an outstanding and dynamic leader to succeed Professor Trevor Kilpatrick in 2024 as the Institute’s next Director of The Florey.
Founded in 1960, The Florey is the largest brain research centre in the Southern Hemisphere, with teams of researchers dedicated to building knowledge on a range of neurological and psychiatric conditions. Its expertise, collaborations and world-class facilities translate discovery into treatments and advanced clinical practice to improve the lives of people living with brain and mental health conditions. With more than 500 staff and research spanning the four missions of “Dementia”, “Epilepsy”, “Mental Health” and “Protect and Repair”, The Florey’s goal is to advance humanity through brain research, improving the health and wellbeing of people globally.
The Florey is now looking for a new Director to take it into its next era. Reporting to the Board of The Florey and being responsible for the leadership of the entire Institute, the Director will be an inspirational leader of global standing in neurosciences and neurology who has the vision to understand how The Florey can position itself in the rapidly changing research and clinical environments of the coming decades. They will foremost have the ability to drive excellence in research and guide the translation of that research into practice, fostering a culture that allows colleagues and innovation to thrive. Additionally, the appointee will have the acumen to shape institutional strategy, and to represent The Florey as a compelling advocate with government, industry, donors and the community.
