At the Faculty of Medicine of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg there is a vacancy for the

W3-Professorship for Medical Data Science (m/f/d)

(successor of Prof. Dr. Dr. J. Bernarding)

to be filled for an unlimited period.

The Institute for Medical Data Science evolves from the former Institute for Biometry and Medical Informatics (IBMI). The applicant is expected to lead the Institute for Medical Data Science and represent the full spectrum of research, teaching, and service in medical data science for the medical faculty. Areas of focus include methods in medical informatics, biostatistics, and/or bioinformatics. In particular, expansion of existing expertise and infrastructure for analysis of large data sets, image and -omics data, including the application of the latest AI techniques is desired, as well as support of the medical faculty in e-learning.

A degree in computer science/medical informatics/statistics/bioinformatics, related subjects or human medicine, own experience and research projects in the field of medical informatics and medical data science is required. Excellent publications in these areas, continued success in attracting high-level external funding, and leadership and management experience in a university setting are also expected. A post-doctoral degree in medical informatics or biometrics or evidence of equivalent scientific accomplishments are necessary requirements for the position.

We also expect an active commitment to collaboration in interdisciplinary teams, with colleagues from the institutes and clinics, and dedicated participation in existing structures/alliances for research and teaching. We require relevant teaching experience and place particular emphasis on didactic competencies and commitment to teaching.
