The Department of Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science of the University of Basel invites applications for a Professorship in Ecosystem Ecology (open rank).
The new Professor and its group will be expected to develop and strengthen interdisciplinary research and teaching in Ecosystem Ecology within the Department of Environmental Sciences. The candidate’s research deals with ecological questions at the ecosystem scale, focusing on the synthesis and model-based analysis of large data sets. Research may cover biodiversity loss, global change ecology, interaction networks, flow of energy and materials, or ameliorating effects of conservation measures. The professorship will be co-responsible for the tri-faculty master's program "Sustainable Development". It will contribute to both teaching in this multi-disciplinary program as well as in organismal biology at the bachelor's and master's levels.
Applicants should hold a PhD in ecology, environmental science, or a related field, and have a proven track record of research activities, a strong publication record, and a history of externally funded research. We particularly welcome applications by candidates with experience in “big-data” environmental analyses and with a demonstrated ability to combine ecological science with other environmental sciences in an interdisciplinary context. A proven record of interdisciplinary teaching activities will also be highly desirable. Early career researchers (at the level of tenure-track assistant professor) are especially encouraged to apply.
