Chief Editor, Nature Reviews Clean Technology
Location: New York, Shanghai, Berlin (Hybrid Working); internal applicants from other journals hub locations may also apply.

Springer Nature, the publisher of Nature, is looking to recruit a Chief Editor for a new Nature Reviews journal – Nature Reviews Clean Technology – which will launch in January 2025.
The journal will have a broad multidisciplinary scope and will cover all research areas relating to technology and processes that minimize negative environmental impact and promote sustainable resource use. Core topics include environmental technology; environmental, civil, industrial, and chemical engineering; energy technology and systems; transportation; green chemistry; industrial ecology; life cycle planning, design and assessment; environmental impacts; and economics. The journal will bring together work from researchers in the academic and private sectors, and will also provide insight onto how recent developments in these research areas might affect society and influence policy.
The Chief Editor is responsible for recruiting, training and leading a skilled and enthusiastic editorial team and for developing the editorial strategy and content of the journal. The successful applicant will work closely with their journal editorial team on all aspects of the editorial process, including commissioning, manuscript editing of Reviews and Comment-type articles, and writing for the journal.
For this exciting role, the ideal candidate will have:
- A PhD, a strong research background, and connections with relevant research communities.
- Previous editorial experience and experience with line management would be beneficial.
- Broad knowledge of the topics covered by the journal.
- Excellent literary and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to the communication of scientific ideas.
- Outstanding leadership qualities.
- A positive attitude to change.
- Innovative and creative ideas for the future development of the journal.
A key aspect of the job is interaction with the research community, including attending international conferences and organizing site visits. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and networking skills and be prepared to travel when appropriate and required.
