Umeå Plant Science Centre, UPSC, is one of the strongest research environments for experimental plant biology in Europe, and we conduct research of both basic and strategic importance. Research at UPSC covers a wide range of disciplines in plant biology, including ecology, genetics, physiology, biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology. The common goal shared by scientists within UPSC is to understand the mechanisms driving plant development and plant adaptation to environmental changes. UPSC is a highly dynamic institute with around 200 employees, more than 30 principal investigators and about 10 associated principal investigators. Approximately half of our staff is non-Swedish and the working language is English. We recruit researchers from all over the world. More than 40 nations are represented at UPSC.
As part of a national program in data-driven life science, the plant physiology department is looking for a talented young scientist who wants to establish a new research topic within the UPSC environment. We will offer a generous starting package, including PhD and postdoctoral positions, as well as ample funding to be used freely by the successful applicant. The group leader will be a full member of the PI group of the centre and can enjoy the subsidized use of core facilities of the centre, including state-of-the-art facilities for microscopy, metabolomics, bioinformatics, controlled plant growth and more (UPSC facilities). We are specifically looking for persons who integrate bioinformatic approaches to answer a biological research question within plant infection biology (plant-microbe interaction, plant virus biology, plant metagenome biology, etc). We expect the recruited scientist to be able to lead a group focused on an independent research topic and to generate synergies with other research groups within the centre.
For further questions or more information about the program or the centre, please contact Professor Johannes Hanson, Head of Department (email@example.com).
