About us

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is dedicated to finding cures for cardiovascular disease and is one of the most respected heart research facilities in the world.

The Victor Chang Innovation Centre, supported by the leading cardiovascular research scientists in NSW and funded by the NSW Government, is comprised of eight cutting-edge facilities including a cell function and screening core. This facility provides functional characterisation for a range of cells including primary cardiomyocytes, induced pluripotent stem cell derived cardiomyocytes, endothelial cells, heterologous expression systems and tissue preparations.

Our focus is on high throughput acquisition of data relating to electrophysiology, calcium homeostasis and mechanical properties of cells in health and disease. To achieve this, we have built the core around state-of-the-art technology including:

The role

The manager for the cell phenotyping facility will be responsible for overall management of the facility and will work on a range of projects with researchers from across the spectrum of the NSW cardiovascular community. They will have primary responsibility for ensuring optimal utilisation of our facilities and driving its promotion by identifying and pursuing external funding sources and opportunities to attract external users to the Innovation Centre, including commercial/industry users.

You will have a strong background in physiology, engineering, or other relevant disciplines, and an ability to use this expertise to develop new applications of our suite of cutting-edge technology to extend the capabilities of the core facility.

  • Operation of high throughput phenotyping platforms
  • Method development and validation
  • Driving internal/external user engagement
  • Managing industry partnerships
  • Coordinating Infrastructure funding applications
  • Training of staff and/or postgraduate students
  • Facility administration including equipment maintenance, invoicing, reporting, SOPs, maintaining chemicals, consumables, etc.​

Does this sound like you?

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (eg. cell biology / physiology / bioengineering / pharmacology)
  • Significant expertise in cellular electrophysiology and calcium imaging
  • Demonstrated experience of methods development and validation, preferably in high throughput systems
  • Experience with analysing large data sets
