Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies (SIAIS), affiliated with ShanghaiTech University, was founded on October 12th, 2012. Richard A. Lerner, the founder and pioneer of immunochemistry, is the founding director of SIAIS. With the vision of becoming the “Bell Labs” in biomedical research, SIAIS is growing into a leading international biomedical research institute that values originality and focuses on major diseases, including infectious diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer and autoimmune diseases and other important human diseases. SIAIS currently has 21 laboratories focusing on the four core research areas: Immuno-chemistry, Cell Biology, Computational Biomedicine and AI (artificial intelligence), and Structural Biochemistry.

Job Responsibilities: We are looking for highly-qualified candidates to fill multiple tenure-track/tenured faculty positions. Our recruitment targets, but is not limited to, researchers of infectious diseases (tuberculosis, coronavirus and flavivirus infections), neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's disease), cancer and autoimmune diseases (glioma).

Qualifications: Successful applicants should have an excellent education background and a remarkable track record of research in biochemistry, bioengineering, biomedicine or related field, also have innovative and independent ideas and research ability, applicants should be able to set up an independent research group, with good teamwork ability.

Compensation and Benefits: Salary and startup funds are highly competitive, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishment. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents, including on-campus housing and children's schooling.

All regular ShanghaiTech faculty members will join its new tenure-track system in accordance with international practice for progress evaluation and promotion.

Investing in people

The university is forming a top-tier faculty of 1,000 professors, including 500 tenured or tenure-track faculty (recruited globally) and 500 distinguished professors-in-residence from CAS or other prestigious universities or institutes. ShanghaiTech’s innovative university-wide tenure-track system attracts talented faculty with a wealth of experience from around the world, nearly 20% are foreign nationals and more than 90% of the faculty earned their PhD abroad, including four Nobel laureates, ten National Academy of Sciences (USA) members, seven fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Science s, two Royal Society (UK) fellows, thirty-seven CAS members and five Chinese Academy of Engineering members.

ShanghaiTech offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. It will eventually have 2,000 undergraduate students and 4,000 graduate students (including 3,000 PhD candidates).
