The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) of the University of Lausanne is inviting applications for the position of:

Tenure Track Assistant Professor towards Associate Professor in Computational Metagenomics and Microbial Modeling at the Department of Computational Biology

Starting date: Summer 2024                                                            

Place: Lausanne, Switzerland

Contract length: 2 years, renewable twice                                        

Rate: 100%

The Department of Computational Biology (DBC) is internationally renowned for its excellent research in the development of models to analyse complex and large-scale biological data. Within the frame of the National Centre of Competence Research (NCCR) Microbiomes, the DBC is looking for an outstanding junior individual whose research excels in computational metagenomics, microbial community profiling and modeling, phylogenomics or genome-scale metabolic modelling. The research should focus on the analyses of large-scale omics data (genomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics, etc.) or community modeling using, for example, high-throughput spatial imaging of microbes and their hosts, or other organisms.

Main tasks :

  • Develop an internationally recognized research program funded by external sources
  • Develop a strong collaborative research within the DBC and the NCCR Microbiomes
  • Supervise Master and PhD students
  • Participate in teaching activities by the Department.

Desired profile :

  • PhD in biological sciences, computer science, physics or mathematics
  • A proven track-record of outstanding research achievements, original ideas and successful funding applications in computational biology and microbial research
  • A good knowledge of French or aptitude to learn it.

The Department has excellent computational facilities and access to the latest computer infrastructure. A wet lab is also available. Access to imaging, metabolomics, proteomics, and genomics platforms is available on campus. A start-up package as well as a yearly research allowance for positions and consumables will be available within a dynamic research environment.
