The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences of Friedrich Schiller University Jena invites application for the

CZS Endowed Professorship for artificial intelligence in neural systems imaging
(W3- or W2 with Tenure Track to W3)

This endowed Professorship is embedded in the to be newly established German Center for Mental Health (DZPG) and is to be filled from the 1st of January, 2024.

The professorship is intended to strengthen the research focus of systemic neuroscience in the field of mental health, especially with regard to the joint activities in the DZPG. This includes in particular the elucidation of the neurobiological basis of mental disorders by investigating the altered function and structure of neural changes from the micro- to the macro-level using state-of-the-art imaging techniques, the interpersonal synchronization of neural parameters (hyperscanning) and the translation of these insights into novel interventions and prevention. Accordingly, the development of new algorithms of artificial intelligence (AI) and especially their application for the analysis of corresponding data sets is a scientific core field of the professorship. In doing so, the professorship interacts with the broad and interdisciplinary network of AI expertise in computer science, psychology, and medicine that already exists at the site. At the University of Jena, teaching in psychology is to be represented with courses in the Master's programs.

The applicant (m/f/o) is expected to have a proven track record of outstanding, thematically relevant work in AI-based analytical methods of systemic neuroscience, for example in the topics "Application of deep neural networks to volume data approaches", "Learning from few examples" or "Time series analysis", and leadership competence. Furthermore, the applicant should be able to demonstrate existing international research collaborations. Successful international publication activity as well as high-quality teaching and supervision of students and doctoral candidates are expected. Experience in the acquisition of external funding is expected.

Applicants must hold a PhD and postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent academic merits as well as pedagogical qualifications through prior teaching experience (indicated by teaching evaluations). In the case of a first-time appointment to a professorship, the professorship shall initially be filled as a W2 professorship for a fixed term of six years. After a maximum of six years and subject to a positive tenure evaluation, appointment to a W3 professorship shall take place without the vacancy being readvertised.

Friedrich Schiller University Jena is committed to increasing the number of women in research and teaching. Therefore, the University actively encourages qualified female scientists to apply. Applicants with disabilities will be given preference to other candidates with equal qualifications. Applications should include a CV, a summary of past research achievements, list of publications, documentation of teaching activities and evaluations and of external funding received, copies of certificates and should be submitted electronically to the University’s Appointment Portal at

www.berufungsportal.uni-jena.de

no later than the 30th of September, 2023. They should be addressed to:
