Nature Portfolio is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.

The NPJs are fully open-access Nature Portfolio journals that together span a wide range of research, from fundamental physics to clinical research to engineering. Each NPJ is targeted to a specific scientific community and is launched and ran in collaboration with preeminent scientists. The NPJs are proud of their focus on strong editorial practice, and we aim to reach the global scientific community through the publication of high-quality research and timely review and opinion articles. For more information, see https://www.nature.com/nature-portfolio/about/npj-series

We are now looking for an Associate or Senior Editor to help run the NPJs, which include high-impact journals in the life and health sciences including NPJ Precision Oncology, NPJ Breast Cancer and NPJ Genomic Medicine.

This is a dynamic and varied role that provides many opportunities for developing strong relationships with the global research community, both with the scientists who work directly on the journals and the broader community of authors, reviewers and readers. You will be reporting to the Executive Editor, and work with the support of both the internal Editorial Director and an existing team of dedicated Editors.

The responsibilities include:

  • Devise and develop a strategy to ensure the success of each journal.
  • Oversee the editorial process at the npj portfolio, ensuring that best editorial practice is followed.
  • Implement new policies and practices across the journal group.
  • Identify, recruit and develop external editors.
  • Collaborate with this global editorial team to commission content for the journals.
  • Engage directly with scientists to promote the journals.
  • Maximize journal visibility and reach.

To be considered for the position, you will have:

  • A PhD in cancer research, oncology or genomics.
  • Proven time and project management skills.
  • A passion for communicating science.
  • A dedication to providing great service to authors, reviewers and readers.
  • The interest in working in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong ability to think strategically in a data-driven way.
  • The ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to embrace change.
  • Prior editorial experience is advantageous, and experienced candidates may qualify for a Senior Editor position.
