Research Fellow: Clinical Research Biostatistician

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for full-time or part-time fixed-term contract position(s) of 1 year initially as a Research Fellow/Clinical Research Biostatistician within a thriving Academic Research Organisation. The position may be extended with additional funding availability. The position is available immediately.
The successful candidate will be responsible for statistical aspects of clinical trials including study design, analysis planning and scheduling, analysis and interpretation of data and reporting of results. The successful candidate may also be required to coordinate analysis efforts across multiple research projects.
This is primarily a statistical operational role. The successful candidate will support the delivery of the CORRIB core lab and research centre research programme of cardiovascular research. The role may on occasion also be required to support academic non-operational activity in the CORRIB Core Lab.
Job Description:
Support CORRIB investigators and CORRIB operational team in the statistical needs for the unit.
Lead and execute statistical aspects of projects end to end, including experimental design, analysis and presentation of data.
Conduct activities in line with applicable regulatory requirements, staying abreast of best practice from a statistical perspective in the conduct of clinical trials.
Maintain consistent approaches within and across research projects, ensuring that all project-related work is carried out in accordance with SOPs and with international regulatory standards.
Coordinate the development of statistical deliverables and work packages within a trial e.g. statistical analysis plans (SAP(s)), statistical programming, creation of table shells, the production of tables, listings, graphs and figures, data review and statistical analysis and/or review of those programmed by others to ensure the delivery of quality products.
Identify potential data problems from analytical queries and take initiative to guide the process of resolution.
Act as process owner for the statistical processes within the unit creating, establishing new processes as required and integrating these into the Quality management system.
Support audit readiness activities within the unit in their capacity as process owner and subject matter expert.
Mentor and line manage more junior members of the team as required.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, project leader, principal investigator, other clinical investigators and project team members, as well as participating in presentations at client and investigator meetings.
Write statistical sections of integrated reports, abstract and subsequent publications.
Collaborate closely with investigators, sponsors, and other study leadership to ensure that the study/project results and conclusions are presented accurately and without bias.
Qualifications/Skills required:
Essential Requirements:
PhD in biostatistics or related field, plus 4-6 years full-time postdoctoral relevant research experience e.g. experience in applying statistical methods in biomedical research, pharmaceutical or CRO industry experience.
Strong working knowledge of Statistical computing packages, e.g. SAS, R or Minitab.
Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to clearly communicate statistical issues and methods to both statisticians and non-statisticians.
Excellent attention to detail.
Leadership and mentoring skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills.
Desirable skills:
Previous experience gained working in Statistician role in a clinical research or a closely related field e.g. Pharma or Medical Device sector.
Experience working within a Quality Management adhering to QC and QA control systems and risk management processes.
Experience adhering to applicable regulations, guidelines and legislation for Clinical Trials.
Self-motivated, high level of initiative and excellent attention to detail.
Some experience in trial management SW packages, EDC SW packages.
Salary: Research Fellow Salary Scale (€60,412 - €78,863) per annum (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale, where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
