The Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology in the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate or Professor rank. Individuals holding a Ph.D., DVM, or MD with an outstanding record of innovative research and academic performance, and with demonstrated expertise in areas of research broadly related to physiology are encouraged to apply. The search is open with respect to the physiology subfield but research addressing current challenges in diseases of metabolism (obesity, type II diabetes, metabolic syndrome, etc.), cardiovascular function (hypertension, chronic heart failure, etc.) and digestion (GERD, Celiac, Crohn's/IBS, etc.) are of particular interest.
We seek to fill this position without delay. The successful candidate will receive a highly competitive start-up package and state-of-the-art laboratory space. Expectations include maintaining a vigorous externally funded research program, providing exemplary mentorship, engaging in productive scientific collaborations, and contributing to the teaching mission of the department. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the recruitment and training of graduate students through our Integrated Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program. The successful candidate will be encouraged to interact with investigators in multiple centers/institutes, including the Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases, Barhop Institute for Aging, Center for Biomedical Neuroscience, Center of Mucosal & Microbiome Biology and Center for Innovative Drug Discovery.
The San Antonio metropolitan area, with a population of 2.5 million, offers a dynamic and multicultural living experience. Located just a short drive from additional entertainment venues in Austin and just 3 hours from the Texas gulf coast, San Antonio is a gateway to the scenic Texas Hill Country where recreational activities, including hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, and boating are all minutes away.
