The Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva invites applications for two faculty positions; one in metabolism; and another one in renal physiology and/or pathophysiology. The appointment will be at Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)‐funded assistant professor level, with a possibility for tenure following the term. The appointment is linked to obtaining an SNSF (or equivalent) starting grant.

1st: Position in Metabolism. We seek candidates who use in vivo models to study whole body metabolism in context of nutrition, health, and disease, with a particular focus on obesity and diabetes. The successful candidate will be integrated into the Diabetes Centre of the Faculty of Medicine and will be expected to develop and coordinate highly original, innovative and interactive research.

2nd: Position in renal physiology and/or pathophysiology. We seek candidates who will develop an independent line of research with strong interactions with existing research groups. The candidate should have a strong research background in renal physiology and/or pathophysiology.

Candidates will be gradually involved in teaching at undergraduate and graduate level. A good understanding of intermediary, or integrated metabolism for the 1st position, and renal physiology and pathophysiology of acute kidney injury or chronic kidney disease for the 2nd position will be positively valued.

Switzerland has an exceptionally high human development index and consistently ranks highly in quality of life, economic competitiveness, and innovation. University of Geneva attracts outstanding scientists from all over the world and offers excellent research infrastructure and environment in a beautiful natural setting. The University is an equal opportunities employer and particularly welcomes applications from women.

The Department will provide strong support and mentoring, and the successful candidates can reach out and benefit from the multidisciplinary environment of our Faculty’s Section of Fundamental Medicine (Departments of Immunology and Pathology, Genetic Medicine and Development, Microbiology and Molecular Medicine, and Neuroscience), as well as of the immediate proximity to the Geneva University Hospitals.

Applicants need to hold PhD or MD and have excellent scientific track record. To apply, please submit cover letter, a curriculum vitae including a publication list, and a concise, not more than 3 page‐long statement of future research plans, along with the contacts of 3 referees who are ready to supply their letter of recommendation upon request to tamara.bollmann@unige.ch .

Applications should be submitted preferentially before July 1st 2023. Starting date: end of 2024, or as agreed.
