The Department of Clinical Sciences and laboratory of Olof Lagerlöf at Umeå University in Sweden are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to develop a novel biosensor for imaging metabolic signaling in the brain.

At Umeå University you will experience an attractive and creative academic and research environment that is characterized by excellence, innovation, openness and diversity. We rank among the top universities in the world and are committed to providing our employees with unique opportunities for professional and personal development. More than 2000 researchers and 34 700 students have chosen Umeå University already. You are welcome too!

Project description

Lagerlöf Lab is a diverse group of people with a background in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuronal circuit mapping and clinical psychiatry. We integrate these techniques to reveal how appetite is encoded by the brain. Our overall aim is to identify fundamental mechanisms of food intake that can be harnessed to treat conditions associated with unhealthy eating habits such as anorexia nervosa and obesity. The goal of this project is to develop a novel biosensor to image in the brain how specific metabolic signaling pathways affect food intake. Every member in our lab is supported to lead their own project. We believe in fostering an environment where everyone enjoys the freedom, courage and ability to answer the big questions in neuroscience.

Qualifications

We seek people excited about the brain and how it makes us feel, think and behave. Proficiency in molecular biology, fluorescence imaging, directed evolution, yeast genetics and biosensor development is highly meritorious. The fellowship is full-time for two years starting June 2023 or by agreement. Eligible are those that hold a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry or another field related to the project. Ph.D. students within 3 months of degree certification are encouraged to apply; their degree needs to be finalized before acceptance can be given.

To apply

The application should be submitted as one single document in Word or PDF.

The application should include:

1.                       Curriculum Vitae

2.                       Cover letter describing your research interests, why you want to join us, how you can contribute to the lab and project and your career plans after the fellowship ends

3.                       Publication list

4.                       Copies of relevant degree certificates

5.                       Two reference letters
