Post-doctoral and/or Staff Specialist positions in vascular biology

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Mission Bay campus is seeking candidates for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow or Associate/Full Research Specialist/Scientist, dependent on qualification and experience. Multiple NIH-funded positions are available to investigate the molecular mechanisms governing vascular endothelial stability and its dysfunction in disease, with a focus on the TGFb/BMP signaling family. Specifically, the project will study the molecular function of PTPN14 in balancing endothelial homeostasis and its contributions to development of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations and lymphedema.

The candidate must have an advanced degree and experience in molecular and cellular biology, mouse genetics, and in vivo mouse models of vascular dysfunction (e.g. retinal angiogenesis, corneal angiogenesis, lung vascular biology). They will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team and will have the opportunity to conduct both basic and translational research.

The ideal applicant will have recently obtained a PhD in Molecular, Developmental, Cell, or Vascular Biology, and have a strong track record of publications, teamwork, and collegiality. Such a person would be encouraged to apply for post-doctoral fellowships as part of their individual career development plan and they will receive strong mentorship. Required Qualifications for the Staff Specialist position:

• Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a Master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in molecular and cellular biology, including CRISPR/Cas9 engineering, mouse genetics, and in vivo mouse models of vascular dysfunction (e.g. retinal angiogenesis, corneal angiogenesis, lung vascular biology).

• Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or 10 or more years of experience in molecular and cellular biology, including CRISPR/Cas9 engineering, mouse genetics, and in vivo mouse models of vascular dysfunction (e.g. retinal angiogenesis, corneal angiogenesis, lung vascular biology).

• Applicants must have obtained the degree requirement for the Specialist rank by the time of hire.

• Applicants’ materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

• The ideal applicants will have a PhD in Molecular, Developmental, Cell, or Vascular Biology, be strongly motivated and have a strong track record of publications, teamwork, and collegiality.

• The ideal applicant for a specialist track position would be expected to have more experience in vascular biology both in vivo and in vitro.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period.

Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
