Research Assistant – Mimetics Development, Vacusense - Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund (DTIF) Round 3, Anatomy, School of Medicine, University of Galway 078-23

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position of Research Assistant in Anatomy at the University of Galway for 18 months.

 

This position is funded under the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIFRound 3 which is a €500 million fund established under the National Development Plan (NDP). 

 

The position is available from April 1st 2023 to contract end date of September 30th 2024.

 

Job Description:

 

The Research Assistant will perform research tasks for the Vacusense DTIF project in Anatomy and the Duffy lab and liaise with partners in the University of Galway, TU Dublin, Versono Medical and Integer to develop a state-of-the-art integrated device to treat patients with critical limb ischemia with the aim of reducing pain, improving blood flow and preserving the limb.

 

The Research Assistant will be based in the Duffy lab in the School of Medicine at the University of Galway.

 

Principal duties:

 

  • Provide technical support for the repeat building of patient analogues
  • Organise 3D printed parts and vessels

 

Requirements:

 

Essential

  • Bachelor of Science
  • Minimum 2 years research or industrial experience
  • Evidence of strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes and to respond appropriately to rapidly changing deadlines;
  • Flexible, self-motivated; ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience in basic histology
  • Experience in micro computed-tomography (CT) imaging & analysis

 

Desirable

  • Experience in mimetics development
  • Experience in 3D printing
  • Experience in histological tissue processing, microtomy and basic staining techniques
  • Extensive experience in micro CT imaging analysis - segmentation and volumetric analysis of human tissue

Salary: €29,275 - €31,355 1 FTE

 

Start date: Immediately
