Junior professorship Biochemistry of Gene Expression
The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) aims to advance its focus research areas neurosciences, cardiovascular medicine, and oncology by integrating approaches from both translational and systems medicine. This is achieved in part as a partner location of the health research centers German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK), the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), and the German Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Health (DZKJ). On the Göttingen Campus, the UMG is tightly networked with its focal area molecular cell biology with the faculties of natural and biological sciences of the university, as well as with the non-university research institutions on site.
The Institute for Molecular Biology within the UMG invites applications for a
Junior professorship Biochemistry of Gene Expression
(Pay grade W1, tenure track W2)
– Second call –
commencing as soon as possible. The selected candidate will be initially appointed for three years. If the interim evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by another three years. The transition to a tenured position (W2) without further posting will then take place after a positive evaluation.
This tenure track position offers a reliable career perspective and numerous options for cooperation and networking within the faculty and on the Göttingen campus.
We expect the successful candidate to support the main research areas of the University Medical Center Göttingen and the Center for Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology with their molecular biology research. They will also participate in existing and future research consortia. Their research focus should be on analyzing the mechanisms and regulation of gene expression processes. The methodological focus should lie with biochemical methods tailored to investigating the dynamics, function and regulation of core components and the macromolecular complexes involved.
This call addresses early career scientists after an excellent PhD, who are currently developing an individual scientific profile.
All applicants are expected to have graduated with an outstanding PhD and should be able to show significant previous work in the form of publications in high impact journals or have corresponding relevant experience through industrial research in aforementioned research areas. International research experience is expected and can be shown by e.g., research stays abroad, international research cooperation or an international working environment.
Further requirements for the appointment of junior professors are laid out in the current version of § 30 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Lower Saxony (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz), according to which no more than four years should have passed between the last examination performance within the framework of the doctorate and the application for a junior professorship. For physicians, different hiring requirements apply. If necessary, additional periods to be credited (e.g. child-rearing and care periods) will be taken into account. The appointed candidate will be involved in research and teaching of biochemistry and molecular biology and participate in faculty committees. The University Medical Center Göttingen holds the right of appointment.
Part-time employment may be possible under specific conditions.
The UMG strives to increase the number of women on its staff and therefore particularly encourages qualified women to apply. In case of applicants of equal qualifications, candidates with severe disabilities will be given preference.
