An outstanding tenure-track opportunity has arisen for an exceptional researcher to join the University of Sheffield, a world top 100 University, as part of our Flagship Neuroscience Institute. You will join internationally recognised experts in medicine, science and engineering, to improve the lives of patients and families affected by neurological, sensory and developmental disorders. We are particularly interested in candidates who have expertise in one of the following areas: neurological disease modelling; mechanistic neurobiology of neurodegenerative disease; therapeutic target identification for neurodegenerative disease; single cell multiomics experience.

We are seeking candidates with an outstanding research profile and clear potential as future academic leader, with interests that align with our programmes in translational neuroscience, sensory and developmental neuroscience, or cognitive neuroscience and mental health. If successful, you would be appointed as a Senior Research Fellow at Grade 8 or 9 for five-years during which we will provide you with opportunities to develop your career including support for making external funding applications. At the end of that five-year period, following the achievement of your research plans, you would progress to a full academic position within one of our academic departments, while remaining a key member of the Flagship Neuroscience Institute.

During your first five years, you will focus almost exclusively on developing your interdisciplinary research profile, pursuing opportunities for high profile external grants, producing an array of high-quality publications and exploring opportunities for partnership building and knowledge exchange and demonstrating the impact of your research. We will look to provide you with opportunities to develop your leadership skills, through supporting the leadership of a research group or other aspect of the Flagships activities. We will also provide you with leadership development through our Sheffield Leader program, in order to build these skills and equip you as an academic leader of the future.

This is a unique opportunity for outstanding researchers with real potential to drive forward their research career and develop their research leadership skills whilst on a pathway to becoming a senior academic.

We are committed to enabling our employees to work in a hybrid model with flexibility over when, where and how to achieve the required outputs, in discussion with your manager. We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
