The Faculty of Biosciences at Heidelberg University invites applications for a

Tenure Track Professorship - W1 with Tenure Track to W3 (f/m/d)

“Organismic Environmental adaptation”

at the Centre for Organismal Studies Heidelberg (COS) to be occupied at the earliest possible date.

The successful candidate (f/m/d) will fit into and expand research activities of COS in the areas of lineage plasticity and developmental robustness in animal model systems. Applicants are expected to address fundamental questions in quantitative developmental biology applying single cell technologies in genetically tractable and ecologically relevant animal models (in particular zebrafish, medaka, fruit fly), focussing on the molecular mechanisms of plasticity, adaptation and morphological diversity. Applicants should present innovative research programs that facilitate and promote collaboration with colleagues at COS and the Heidelberg life science community. The successful candidate will integrate into existing research consortia (excellence clusters or CRCs) and/or participate in initiatives aimed at creating new collaborative networks. The professorship contributes to teaching in the biosciences within the study programmes Bachelor “Biowissenschaften”, Bachelor ”Biologie 50% (Lehramt)” and Master of Molecular Biosciences.

COS is a vibrant research centre dedicated to elucidating the development, physiology and evolution of plants and animals using molecular biology, cell biology and genetics. COS comprises 24 independent research groups and offers excellent conditions for research and teaching in an international environment. Our work is supported by the CellNetworks Core Technology Platform (Deep Sequencing, Nikon Imaging Center, electron microscopy and Metabolomics). A detailed description of the research and teaching activities of COS is available on the COS webpage https://www.cos.uni-heidelberg.de/en.

The professorship is a temporary qualification position. In accordance with Article 51 and 51b LHG (Higher Education Act of the state Baden-Württemberg), the appointment to a tenure track professorship requires a completed degree, an excellent doctorate and pedagogical aptitude, which has generally been proven through teaching experience. If you spent time employed as a research assistant (before or after your doctorate), this employment and the period of your doctoral studies combined should not exceed six years.

The Tenure Track Professorship (junior professorship, salary grade W1) will initially be limited to six years and, following a positive tenure evaluation, will be converted to a permanent full professorship (salary grade W3).

Provided that the general legal (German civil service law) and budgetary regulations are fulfilled, it is intended that the employment will have civil service status.

Please submit your application including CV, publication and third-party funding lists, teaching experience, previous research activities, future research projects and references with contact details in a single PDF to the dean of the Faculty of Biosciences at Heidelberg University, Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Hell, Im Neuenheimer Feld 234, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany, direktor@cos.uni-heidelberg.de, no later than April 7, 2023.

Heidelberg University stands for equal opportunities and diversity. Qualified female candidates are especially invited to apply. Persons with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are equally qualified.
