of Kiel University
are looking to appoint a
junior professor (W 1) for the pathophysiology of chronic inflammation
with temporary civil service status for an initial period of four years (first phase) to start at the earliest possible time or date.
The future occupant of this position should represent the pathophysiology of chronic inflammation with translational approaches in research and teaching as well as in patient care and operate in the context of chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
The future occupant of the position is expected to actively contribute to the faculty’s priority research area "Digital Medicine - Recognizing, Understanding, Curing" with the profile areas of oncology, inflammation and neuroscience. Active participation in and support for the Cluster of Excellence “Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation” (PMI) are expected, as well as involvement in at least one ongoing collaborative research project. The research environment of the professorship with the interdisciplinary priority research areas at Kiel University (CAU) "Kiel Life Science" (KLS) and "Kiel Nano Surface & Interface Science" (KiNSIS), research activities in the other faculties such as the Faculty of Engineering as well as non-university research institutions like the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon also offer excellent networking opportunities. Integration into these research activities is expected.
The professorship is located at the Department of Internal Medicine I at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Kiel, headed by Prof. Dr med. Stefan Schreiber, and the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (Directors: Prof. Dr Stefan Schreiber, Prof. Dr Philip Rosenstiel, Prof. Dr Andre Franke) at the CAU. The research group will have access to state-of-the-art experimental platforms, including the Comprehensive Centre for Genomic Analysis (CCGA) next-generation sequencing platform. Coordination of the collection and use of patient samples from the Comprehensive Center for Inflammation Medicine (CCIM) is a fixed part of the professorship. The work will take place at the CAU’s Faculty of Medicine. Candidates from other fields of inflammation research are also encouraged to apply.
The applicant should have a degree in medicine and will participate in the care of patients with chronic inflammatory diseases. The applicant will be given the opportunity to complete residency training in the context of research-driven health care. Outstanding research achievements in the field and teaching experience are required. Experience in obtaining third-party funding is an advantage.

After successful evaluation of the first phase of the junior professorship it is the aim to extend the temporary civil servant status for another period of two years (second phase).
