THE OPPORTUNITY
The Garvan Institute’s ACRF INCITe Centre Imaging Specialist – Facility Manager will oversee all aspects of use, training, maintenance and resources within the Centre. The position will be embedded within the Phan and Timpson lab and will participate in individual Research and Development of new intravital imaging methods and techniques. This role will report to the Co-Directors of the ACRF INCITe centre Prof Tri Phan & Prof Paul Timpson.
Salary: $113,400 + 14% super + salary packaging
Employment Type: 1 year term contract

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-
Provide individual training for internal and external researchers of all levels on imaging equipment within the INCITe centre;
-
Provide individual training for researchers on image analysis platforms (Imaris, FIJI, FLIMFit etc)
-
Contribute to and participate in ongoing R&D projects at the INCITe centre;
-
Co-ordinate and contribute to investigations to troubleshoot and improve existing processes, methods and workflows within the INCITe centre;
-
Facilitate and manage experimental design independently and in collaboration with researchers, interpret and report results;
-
Manage and co-ordinate technical enquiries including project scoping for internal and external researchers;

Implement Quality Control protocols relating to calibration and maintenance of equipment and document policies and procedures;

Successful contribution to research projects resulting in authorship of published articles in refereed journals, books, conference papers / reports and other research publications

Contribution to productive research outcomes in team and collaborative projects resulting in mid-authorships on scientific publications

Supervision of research students and junior research staff

Contribution to Garvan’s organisation and management through membership of committees, participation in training and mentoring programs and other activities to promote a culture of research excellence and collegiality
ABOUT YOU
The key skills and experience of a Senior Research Officer include:
-
Shall possess a PhD degree in a relevant area of science
-
Previous experience as a Research Scientist (desirable)
-
Advanced knowledge on how to complete techniques including but not limited to multiphoton, FLIM, FRET, adaptive optics, intravital imaging.
-
Advanced knowledge and experience using and training of the following equipment: Multiphoton, confocal, TIRF, widefield fluorescence and slide scanners, other systems to apply.

Advanced knowledge of image analysis platforms including script writing (Fiji, Imaris etc)
-
Experience in the maintenance of microscopy equipment
-
Ability to identify, develop and review operating procedures
-
Strong understanding of all laboratory procedures and safe operating procedures
-
Experience in handling hazardous waste
-
Well-developed time management and organisational skills with the ability to organize and prioritise work
-
Ability to develop, manage and maintain internal and external working relationships
-
Highly developed attention to detail and demonstrated ability to keep accurate records
-
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
-
Experience in managing budgets (desirable)

Strong leadership and mentoring skills (desirable)
