Summary

The primary purpose of this Research Associate position is to carryout the laboratory's work of conducting federally funded studies in the retina to understand the signaling mechanism of vision and pressure-related conditions, such as glaucoma and other pressure-caused visual damage. Scientific seminars are available from the department and other institutes around the Medical Center. For collecting valuable data, electrophysiological experiments on living tissue do not warrant a fixed working schedule. The candidates willing to adapt to flexible experimental hours will be preferably considered.

Job Duties

  • Record retinal neurons in different conditions, generating animal models, performing morphological studies, and collaborating on other works.
  • Conduct routine laboratory tasks mainly include patch-clamp recording of individual retinal neurons, prepare solutions and reagents, make living retinal slices and whole mounts, single-cell labeling, confocal observation, animal handling, etc. Requested experimental skills include patch-clamp recording in living slice preparations, retinal dissection and handling, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in animal research
  • Experience in data analysis, data presentation, searching and handling references, scientific writing, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop or Image J, PubMed, Endnote or Reference Manager, MATLAB, etc.
  • Must have collaborative skills working among people of diverse cultural backgrounds
