About Nankai University

Nankai University (NKU) is located in Tianjin which is one of the four municipalities in China. NKU is a multidisciplinary Project 985 & 211 university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, and it is elected into the national ‘double first-class’ initiative. Besides its main campus in Balitai, NKU also has a campus in Jinnan District and TEDA College in Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area.

Schools and Disciplines

NKU is one of the comprehensive and research-oriented universities with a complete range of disciplines in China. It features a balance between the Humanities and the Sciences, a solid foundation and a combination of application and creativity. NKU has 27 professional colleges, covering natural sciences, engineering, management, humanities and social science. 16 disciplines rank among ESI Global Top 1%: the discipline of chemistry and materials science is listed in the Top 1‰; 6 disciplines, including mathematics, chemistry, statistics, materials science and engineering, applied economics, world history, are designated as ‘double first-class' subject areas.

Faculty and Research Platform

NKU has now attracted 2270 full-time professional faculty members, including 951 professors and 872 associate professors. Among them, there are 16 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, along with more than 300 national-level talents.

NKU adheres to the "four aspects", aims at the world's scientific and technological frontiers and major national needs, and vigorously strengthens basic research and original innovation. Now, NKU is home to  5 National Key Laboratories, 1 national engineering research center, 1 national and local joint engineering research center, 3 collaborative innovation centers in 2011, and to more than 80 scientific research platforms.
