University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC)

The Center for Information in Medicine and the School of Life Science and Technology are two linked organizations in the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). The School/Center has a doctoral program (PhD issuance authority) and a post-doctoral research station for “Biomedical Engineering” as a primary discipline which ranks No. 10 nationwide. The Center/School also has a master program (Master Degree issuance authority) for “Biology” as a primary discipline. The teaching and research in the school covers multi-disciplines in Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, and particularly their integration with Information Science. Currently the School/Center has a national research platform “MoST International Joint Research Center for Neuroinformation”, Ministry and Provincial Platforms “MoE Key Laboratory for Neuroinformation”, “Sichuan Province Key Laboratory for High Field MRI Brain Imaging”, as well as “Innovation & Talents Introduction Base for Neuroinformation (111 Project)”.

A. Joint China-Cuba Laboratory for Frontier Research in Translational Neurotechnology
The lab develops knowledge, intellectual properties, products and services based on new technologies for the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with neurological and psychiatric dysfunctions (Brain Disorders). The characteristics of this laboratory will be:

a. Develop technologies for early detection of cognitive and sensory problem in disadvantageous population like children and/or aging people with cognitive disabilities and strategies of intervention.

b. Improve methods of treatment and rehabilitation in neurological and psychiatric disorders applying forms of neuromodulators, stimulators, robotics, neurofeedback and brain-machine interfaces.

c. Promote the high tech industrialization in China and Cuba.

d. The development of wearable devices

C. Key Laboratory for NeuroInformation of Ministry of Education
Key Laboratory for NeuroInformation (NIL) of Ministry of Education of china (MoE) was founded in 2008. It foots on the cross area between neuroscience and information technology, located at the School of Life Science and Technology, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). The Lab offers education for postgraduates and Ph.D and postdoctor training on Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience. It is the only MoE lab specialized in neural information processing and its application in cognitive science and various brain disorders.
