This map shows two aspects of Chinese science. Line thickness and colour reflect the number of partnerships that formed between pairs of institutions in Chinese cities in 2016. A partnership occurs when researchers from both institutions publish joint papers in a journal included in the index.
The map also shows the high-quality research produced in mainland Chinese cities in 2016, as measured by the index. Bubbles represent the contribution of a city’s institutions to journals included in the index, a measure known as weighted fractional count (WFC). Read more about index metrics.
