Learning from leaves: Going green with artificial photosynthesis

Artificial methods to turn COinto useful chemicals need to be cost-efficient in order to compete with existing routes. A collaboration between Siemens, Evonik and Covestro combines solar-powered electroreduction of CO2  with a bacterial fermenter to produce complex chemicals in high selectivities and efficiencies. Importantly, the process is stable, scalable and modular.
