Lindsey is a Lecturer in Genetics in the School of Biosciences at the University of Birmingham. Her work focuses on understanding the genetic basis of complex traits in crops and the application of this knowledge for improving crop breeding. Lindsey is passionate about teaching all things genetics and passing on her love for the subject to the next generation of geneticists.

  • We are pleased to announce the winners of the first annual prize for the best student-led paper in Heredity. The quality of papers was in general very high but the award for this year goes to Donald McKnight, from James Cook University. We would like to thank all of the authors for submitting their research to Heredity and congratulate those contributing to the long- and short-listed papers.

  • Resisting the Tilapia Lake Virus
  • Nile tilapia are the third most important farmed fish worldwide, but the emergence of the Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV) threatens its sustainable production. In this episode, Dr Agustin Barría discusses his recent collaboration, where they used a natural outbreak of TiLV to investigate the genetic architecture of disease
  • Heredity welcomes the submission of original articles and reviews for inclusion in the journal’s latest special issue focusing on multi-faceted approaches for breeding nutrient-dense, disease resistant, and climate resilient crop varieties for food and nutritional security. If you would like to contribute, please contact the editorial office heredity-journal@glasgow.ac.uk

Heredity is a Transformative Journal; authors can publish using the traditional publishing route OR via immediate gold Open Access.

Our Open Access option complies with funder and institutional requirements.

CALL FOR PAPERS: Multi-faceted Approaches for Breeding Nutrient-Dense, Disease Resistant, and Climate Resilient Crop Varieties for Food and Nutritional Security

Heredity welcomes the submission of original articles and reviews for inclusion in the journal’s latest special issue. The issue will focus on the improvement of nutrition, disease resistance, and climate resilience using multi-faceted approaches, including: development and use of genetic and genomics resources; gene/QTL discovery through genomics and transcriptomic approaches; QTL mapping and genome-wide association studies (GWAS); conventional and genomics-assisted breeding methods for varietal development; and genetic transformation/genome editing. Guest Editors: Dr. R.R. Mir, SKUAST-Kashmir, India; Dr. Chenwu Xu, Yangzhou University, Jiangsu, China; Dr. Yuan-Ming Zhang, Huazhong Agricultural University, China; and Dr. Sachin Rustgi, Clemson University, Pee Dee REC, Florence, USA. Submission is open to everyone, and all submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed through the regular journal review process.
