During the 10-mL swallow (center), note the markedly increased intrabolus pressure recorded 1 cm above the UES during bolus flow (represented by the hatched bar) across the open sphincter. The subsequent swallow coping with the much reduced residual bolus, shows a much smaller intrabolus pressure domain.
