Our in-house editors are PhD-level scientists with research experience. All in-house editors work full-time for the journal to oversee the review process, handle manuscripts as primary editors, liaise with our Editorial Board Members and enforce journal policy. Editors also engage in other activities on behalf of the journal, such as attending and organizing conferences and meeting with scientists at their institutions.
In-house editors work closely with Editorial Board Members to ensure that all manuscripts are subject to the same editorial standards and journal policies.

Chief Editor | Elena Belsole, PhD, Springer Nature, UK

Elena has a passion for physics and is enthusiastic about continuously implementing innovative ways to serve the physics community. She holds a PhD in Astrophysics and Space Sciences from Paris VI and conducted her research on X-ray astrophysics at the CEA Saclay (France). She carried out postdoctoral research at Bristol and Cambridge Universities before moving to a career in STM publishing. Before joining Communications Physics she was the executive editor of New Journal of Physics. In addition to her Chief Editor duties, Elena handles manuscripts in the areas of astrophysics and cosmology, nuclear and particle physics and atomic and molecular physics. Elena is based in the London office.

Senior Editor | Saleem Denholme, PhD, Springer Nature, UK

Saleem joined Communications Physics in October 2017. He obtained his PhD from the University of Glasgow investigating the synthesis and characterisation of transition metal chalcogenide nanomaterials. He then conducted postdoctoral work as a Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science Fellow at the National Institute of Materials Science, Tsukuba and later as assistant professor in the Department of Applied Physics at the Tokyo University of Science. His research interests include low-dimensional materials and iron-based superconductivity. At Communications Physics Saleem handles manuscripts in materials science and condensed matter physics. Saleem is based in the London office.

Associate Editor | Jacopo Fregoni, PhD, Springer Nature, Spain

Jacopo Fregoni joined Communications Physics in January 2023. He is a former Post-Doctoral research fellow at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid. Before that, he obtained his PhD from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2020, investigating via quantum methods the dynamics of molecules in nanocavities. The main work produced during his PhD was awarded with two prizes by the Italian Chemical Society as young chemist best scientific work of 2020. His research interests are the development of quantum methods to study the interaction of electromagnetic radiations with material structures, and the phenomenology emerging from it. They include photochemical processes, ultrafast spectroscopies, and quantum dynamics in presence of nanostructures. At Communications Physics, Jacopo handles optics and photonics, molecular and chemical physics. He is based in the Madrid office.

Associate Editor | Camilla Pellegrini, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany

Camilla obtained her PhD degree in Physics of Nanostructures and Advanced Materials at the University of the Basque Country and then held post-doctoral positions at the Max-Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Halle and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She conducted research in theoretical solid state physics, focusing on the development of density functional theory for the description of correlation effects in many-body systems. Her fields of study include cavity-QED, optically-induced ultrafast magnetism and superconductivity. Camilla joined the journal in February 2023 and she is based in the Berlin office.

Senior Editor: Aldo Isidori, PhD, Springer Nature, UK

IsidoriAldo received his PhD in condensed matter physics from the University of Rome and then held post-doctoral positions at the Goethe University of Frankfurt, Royal Holloway University of London, and the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA). His areas of interest include strongly correlated materials, such as transition metal and organic high temperature superconductors, quantum phase transitions, magnetic and topological order of matter, and superconducting heterostructures. He studied these systems using both theoretical and experimental approaches. Aldo joined Communications Materials in February 2020 and is based in the London office. He joined the Communications Physics team as a consulting editor in April 2024.

Consulting Editor | Anastasiia Vasylchenkova, PhD, Springer Nature, UK

Anastasiia VasylchenkovaAnastasiia received her PhD in electrical engineering from Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies, Aston University, where she developed the optical fiber communication systems based on the nonlinear Fourier transform. Before that she received BSc and MSc in theoretical physics from Kharkiv National University, Ukraine. Before joining the editorial team, she was a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow in Optical Networks Group at University College London, working on ultrawideband optical communication. Anastasiia joined the editorial team of Communications Engineering in July 2023 and is based in the London office. She has joined the Communications Physics team as a consulting editor in April 2024.
