Editor's choice: 2D materials and heterostructures
2D materials with atomically thin layers represent a broad spectrum of materials with exceptional physical and electric properties. In 2010 the Nobel Prize in physics was awarded to Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov for their groundbreaking work on graphene. 2D materials and their heterostructures have many potential uses, ranging from electronics to biosensors. Aside from their commercial applications, 2D materials also serve as excellent research test beds for many quantum phenomena.
