Protecting and improving public health requires multidisciplinary research into the determinants of health and disease, and large-scale solutions. Here we showcase work across these areas, including epidemiology, health policy, mathematical modelling, electronic health records research, and Registered Reports.

Ripudaman K. Bains

Ripudaman has a research background in human genetics and evolution, and in infectious diseases. She handles manuscripts spanning pathogen biology, public health, epidemiology, and clinical infectious diseases. As an editor, she has a keen interest in clinical infectious diseases, neglected tropical diseases, paediatric infectious diseases, and vaccine and disease eradication efforts.

Brittany Cardwell

Brittany’s background is in cognitive and social psychology, with a focus on memory distortions and perceptions of truth. As an editor, she handles manuscripts on a range of additional topics, including morality, group behavior, cognitive control, personality, and well-being.

Francesco Conti

Francesco has a background in gene therapy and developmental biology of the neuromuscular system. As an editor he is interested in translational and clinical research, and primarily handles papers in the fields of gene therapy, neuromuscular and bone biology, and therapeutic and clinical studies.

Ildiko Gyory

Ildiko has a background in medicine, molecular and developmental immunology with overlap to cancer and immunotropic viruses. As an editor, she handles papers that span from transcriptional and epigenetic regulation in immunology to cancer immunology, immunotherapy and immuno-pathology.

Ching-Yu Huang

Ching-yu has a background in developmental immunology, repertoire generation and immune cell signaling. In addition to being consulted by others on the team, as an editor he handles general immunology, systems immunology and thymocyte development.

 

Riikka Jokinen

Riikka has a background in disease mechanisms and treatment targets for obesity and related metabolic diseases, and in genetic regulation of mitochondrial DNA in the context of inherited metabolic diseases. As an editor she is interested in translational and clinical research in metabolic diseases, hepatology, gastroenterology and endocrinology.

Madlen Luckner

Madlen is trained in molecular biophysics and virology. During her PhD she combined quantitative microscopy and spectroscopy approaches to study entry pathways of RNA viruses and host-directed anti-viral drugs. As a postdoctoral fellow she focused her research on the genome assembly of segmented RNA viruses. Madlen primarily handles manuscripts in the fields of virology, parasitology, antimicrobials and host-pathogen interactions.

Javier Martinez-Vesga

Javier has a research background in virology, with focus on retroviruses and flaviviruses, and microbiology. He handles manuscripts spanning basic, translational and clinical work on human and animal microbiome, virology, antimicrobial agents and bacteriology.

 

Gavin Mason (@GavinMMason1)

Gavin has a background in cell biology, immunology, microbiology and translational immunology. Editorially, they handle a broad range of immunological submissions with a key focus on host pathogen interactions, mucosal immunology and the microbiome.

 

Diane Reckziegel

Diane has a background in clinical neuroscience and physics, and previously focused on the development of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for neurological conditions. As an editor she primarily handles papers in the fields of diagnostics, AI applications to clinical trials, imaging, epidemiology and public health.

Lorenzo Righetto (@LorenzoRighett7)

Lorenzo has a background in computational epidemiology and innovation complexity. Editorially, he is interested in advancements in digital medicine ethics and safety, in AI studies of consciousness, in real-world-evidence digital medicine, in computational social science and in new developments of data-driven epidemiological models. He handles primarily AI diagnostic and prognostic tools, in silico drug discovery methods and computational epidemiology studies.

Sonja Schmid (@Virus_Parasite)

Sonja has a research background in virology, characterizing distinct arms of the host antiviral response and applying this knowledge to engineer viral vectors for therapeutics and vaccines. She handles a wide array of manuscripts in virology and parasitology covering fundamental to clinical research.

Catherine Smith

Catherine has a research background in infectious disease epidemiology and applied public health. She handles manuscripts in classical epidemiology, electronic health records research, mathematical modelling of infectious diseases, genomic epidemiology, and public health.

Aishwarya Sundaram

Aishwarya has 6+ years of experience in pharmaceutical drug discovery research, spanning multiple therapeutic areas, followed by doctoral studies with a focus on pancreatic cancer. As an editor, she handles broad topics including cancer metastasis, drug discovery, nanotherapy, tumor models and epidemiology.
