Public health

Protecting and improving public health requires multidisciplinary research into the determinants of health and disease, and large-scale solutions. Here we showcase work across these areas, including epidemiology, health policy, mathematical modelling, electronic health records research, and Registered Reports.

Ripudaman K. Bains

Ripudaman has a research background in human genetics and evolution, and in infectious diseases. She handles manuscripts spanning pathogen biology, public health, epidemiology, and clinical infectious diseases. As an editor, she has a keen interest in clinical infectious diseases, neglected tropical diseases, paediatric infectious diseases, and vaccine and disease eradication efforts.

Brittany Cardwell

Brittany’s background is in cognitive and social psychology, with a focus on memory distortions and perceptions of truth. As an editor, she handles manuscripts on a range of additional topics, including morality, group behavior, cognitive control, personality, and well-being.

Francesco Conti

Francesco has a background in gene therapy and developmental biology of the neuromuscular system. As an editor he is interested in translational and clinical research, and primarily handles papers in the fields of gene therapy, neuromuscular and bone biology, and therapeutic and clinical studies.

Ildiko Gyory

Ildiko has a background in medicine, molecular and developmental immunology with overlap to cancer and immunotropic viruses. As an editor, she handles papers that span from transcriptional and epigenetic regulation in immunology to cancer immunology, immunotherapy and immuno-pathology.

As an editor she is interested in translational and clinical research in metabolic diseases, hepatology, gastroenterology and endocrinology.

Madlen Luckner

Madlen is trained in molecular biophysics and virology. During her PhD she combined quantitative microscopy and spectroscopy approaches to study entry pathways of RNA viruses and host-directed anti-viral drugs. As a postdoctoral fellow she focused her research on the genome assembly of segmented RNA viruses. Madlen primarily handles manuscripts in the fields of virology, parasitology, antimicrobials and host-pathogen interactions.
