Adult neurogenesis and aging mechanisms

Adult neurogenesis supports important brain functions, such as learning and memory, and its sharp decrease during aging may contribute to the cognitive decline of the aged brain. This Collection aims to gain insight into the cellular and molecular drivers of the age-associated reduction of adult neurogenesis, by gathering studies investigating the mechanisms of neurogenic aging in rodents and other vertebrate and invertebrate model systems, employing both in vivo and in vitro approaches.

All articles have undergone Scientific Reports' standard peer review process and have been subject to all of the journal’s standard policies. This includes the journal’s policy on competing interests. The Guest Editor declares no competing interests with the submissions which they have handled through the peer review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Guest Editor has competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
