Diabetes is a major component of metabolic disease. In addition to having serious effects on health, it contributes to the progression of other diseases and its prevalence is unfortunately increasing. Unravelling the mechanisms of the early stages of diabetes and its complications will be key to improving treatment and prevention in the future.
