Women in Genetics in Heredity

In celebration of International Women's Day this year, we have put together a collection of papers by some prominent female geneticists who have published in Heredity.  In each case, we are highlighting their oldest lead author publication in the journal, as well as their most recent contribution, excluding conference abstracts.

Margart E. Wallace (nee Wright)
Published 14 articles between 1947 (first issue) and 1979, plus conference proceedings in 1985.  First two were published under her maiden name, Wright.

Ruth Sanger 
Published 10 articles between 1948 and 1958 (plus a conference proceedings in 1962).

Mary E. Lyon
Published 4 articles between 1947 and 1960, plus 10 conference proceedings through to 1986.

Charlotte Auerbach
Published just 1 article but 5 conference proceedings between 1948 and 1970.

Rolanda de Matos
Published 2 linked manuscripts in Heredity in 1984. She started her graduation in Biological Sciences at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) in 1943, one year after the first woman was awarded a PhD in Biology and at a time when women in Academia were very rare in that country.
