Originally developed as contrast agents to enhance ultrasound scans, microbubbles are small bubbles typically 0.5–10 μm in size, that are nowadays used for a variety of medical applications beyond medical imaging, such as drug delivery, diagnostics, and therapeutics.
Microbubbles have proven to represent a safe, flexible and non-invasive solution to a nearly infinite range of applications. This collection gathers some of the latest advances in microbubble technology for ultrasound imaging, therapeutics, drug delivery, and diagnostics.
